Artist Profile

A journey underwater

All my words, intentions, concepts and emotions are inside the ink; in its pigment, its viscosity, its application, in the marks it makes and those I remove.

I paint on wood and when opportunity arises I make glass. Outdoors and large scale is best of all for enabling greater expression and better outcomes. Ill, I was confined to bed with the smallest pieces of paper and some pens, so the more I was trapped in one place, the further I travelled in my mind and into the ink.

In this book, utilising an open style of drawing for others to colour into, I manifested recognisable, familiar corners of Edinburgh inside which each artist could lose themselves. The drawing approach required for these wildlife-populated scenes resulted in a narrative and intricate mark making process.

This book of drawings is dedicated to Graham, with heartfelt friendship and gratitude.
